Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
At this point your artist has already cleaned and bandaged your new tattoo and explained how and why caring for your new tattoo is of the utmost importance.
To care for your new tattoo, follow the simple steps below:
Always wash your hands with antibacterial soap before caring for your new tattoo.
Remove the bandage 2-4 hours after your procedure and clean with mild soap and water. We like Softsoap®.
Be gentle with your new tattoo. Blot dry with clean paper towel. Do not wipe or scratch at your new tattoo.
Apply a thin layer of ointment (Aquaphor® or a similar product)
Repeat this process 2-3 times a day for 2-3 days. Your artist will recommend amounts based on the size and location of your new tattoo.
After 2-3 days, discontinue washing and ointment and begin using a fragrance free lotion on your new tattoo. Continue using the lotion as needed until the tattoo is completely healed.
No swimming, saunas, or suntanning for 2 weeks.
Peeling and itching are normal during the heeling process. Avoid picking or scratching at your new tattoo. You may accidentally pick out still healing ink.
Avoid tight fitting clothing during the healing period.
If you cared for your tattoo properly, the artist that originally did your tattoo will touch it up at no cost to you within the first six months. To schedule a touch-up contact your artist.
If you have any questions about how your tattoo is healing, please contact your tattoo artist. If you are experiencing abnormal pain or discomfort please contact your doctor.
